VP 200!
Wow, I got my VP 200 today! And best of all, my mother loves it! I can use VCO and I can hear her voice, and she can hear my voice! She loves it. But I like the signing much better - signing is very expressive. More expressive than CapTel! I love the VP200!
What's that sign? Update on digital TV
I wish I could explain the word I'm signing right now... I feel... Verklempt? You know, the sign where you close a fist at your throat? THAT.
Anyway, that's what I feel right now. I feel so stupid. But at the same time happy.
A friend with far more technological knowledge than I fixed the captioning problem with the CW! Wow. Not even my son who's a wizard at the technological stuff knew that.
It was just the settings that were wrong! Ooo. *closed fist at throat* Now there are captions on CW!
The mode is ANALOG, not DIGITAL! Once February 27, 2009, happens though, I might need to change the mode to digital. My son erred in setting this mode in digital rather than analog. Boy, do I feel stupid now! But problem fixed! Yay! :-)
I think I'll go eat some crow now, that is, write a very nice letter to the TV station letting them know of the happy news! :-)
PS Now my son is pouting that the closed captioning is no longer transparent, but rather, back to basic black. Closed-captioning in the digital mode is pretty nifty - you can change colors, background, size, font, etc. I like it. But CW is not ready for the digital mode - yet. Well, my son will have to wait until February 2009 to get transparent background for closed-captioning again! ;-)

Summer movies!
Summer movies are upon us! For once I'd love to see Kung Fu Panda in the movie theatre! But, www.insightcinema.com is no longer... How do I know which movies are open-captioned and when? I tried www.fomdi.com, but it's not telling me of any future movies that will be open-captioned, like Insight Cinema...
So, how and where do I find out about summer/blockbuster movies being open-captioned in the theatres?
Kung Fu Panda looks so hilarious. Too bad that I might have to wait until it's out on DVD...

Follow-up to closed-captioning issue...
OK, a very strange thing happened last night. CW's missing captions turned up on the NBC channel! Argh. L&O didn't make sense, because they were talking about news. That was from CW. They have news on at 10 pm. So I immediately fired off an email to NBC (they also run CW) to let them know about the situation. How could a channel's closed-captioning appear on a different channel?
So, I've been reading the comments to my previous post... So, is it a converter box issue? Or an OTA signal issue? But I live only 5 miles from the station. NBC in my town owns CW. So they should be able to fix it, right? There should be no difference in OTA signals between NBC and CW, right?
I thought that in the case of OTA, that if you don't get a clear signal, you get nothing at all. But the comment that if the signal is not totally clear, it'll show up anyway, but captions will be garbled was interesting to me... I think it's ridiculous that if you don't have a PERFECT OTA signal, you'll miss out on closed-captioning. Could someone have thought of that before mandating that all analog TV signals be converted to digital TV signals? I'm beginning to suspect, like other posters on the world wide web, that perhaps it is a conspiracy after all, to get all people on cable or satellite... And having to pay money to watch TV... Well, if we have to pay for TV, why have ads on TV? Anyway, so what do I do next? Get an attic antenna? I've found that you can get one for 100 bucks! That's cheap! I think I'll go get one. But would it work? Sigh.
Round and round we go...
